Blast from the Past

I just wanted to take a minute and share with all you sports fans a link that was provided to me by a fellow fan from the Class of '90. It's a website dedicated to Paulsboro HS wrestling started by Ryan O'Hara a few moons ago. It hasn't been updated in a while (maybe Ryan was a little busy earning that degree from the U of Penn) but maybe, with a little sweet talk (or monetary bribe), Ryan will resume his duties as webmaster. He and I are actually working together on another project (small world) so I do talk to him on a regular basis. Hmmmmm, wonder why he never mentioned the site. Did he think we wouldn't find out? Silly him.

Without further ado, here is the link:

Thanks Class of '90!

I'm Baaaaaack!

Wow, there was a lot of dust here. It's been a while. There's been a couple of things happening in our wrestling world lately so I thought I'd update the Blog. Uncle Bob will be so pleased!

Firstly, congrats to Scott Goodale - FORMER Jackson High Coach - on his new position of Rutgers University Head Wrestling Coach. I actually think he's going to do a great job. But more importantly, Jackson doesn't have him anymore! Wooohooo! Could this be the light at the end of a very, very long tunnel? PLEASE!

Next up, apparently this Dunnet kid is pretty good. LOL! Eric travelled to Australia recently to put his wrestling skills to the test and was named MOW of the tournament. I think being 125lbs agrees with him. To read about Eric's accomplishments, click on:

More good news.....looks like the whole Red Raider team may not be too shabby. Amen. The fellas took a trip to Iowa (the wrestling Mecca) a few weeks ago and took no prisoners. Here's that story:

Finally (for now), Paulsboro wrestling...the Club and High School....have some events coming up. The picnic at Silvestro lake is this Saturday, Aug 4th and the annual Coach's Golf Tournament is Monday, Aug 6th. I was going to re-write the flyer but low and behold, look what I found on another wrestling website:

Hopefully, I'll see you at the Lake this Saturday. Don't forget your side dish (I've got deviled eggs covered!).

The Banquet

What a great night to be a Paulsboro wrestling fan. A fabulous time was had by all last night. Good food, great company and a chance to hand out awards to some very deserving wrestlers and volunteers. I am still trying to lose the 20lbs I gained from the peanut butter tandy take dessert.....boy that was good.

We said good-bye to the seniors: Eddie Wurtenberger (Air Force), Niko Lopez (GCC), Justin Sullivan, Ryan Hoehn, Jeff Hamilton, Mike Cucinotta (Rutgers), Alex Silvestro (Rutgers), and Demitrius Hester (Delaware). What a line-up huh?

We sized up the returning squad and the new additions......we're looking good. I'll start thinking about a line-up somewhere in the middle of football season.

We also sang Happy Birthday to Zach Greenwald (16) and Sammy Morina (10).

Below I have listed most of the awards that were distributed but there were many others who received a special "thanks" from Coach Morina. There are so many people that have made a difference in this program, both wrestlers and volunteers, the list just goes on and on. All I know is that I ran out of tissues.....I'm such a girl. One thing I didn't do was take pictures (duh) but I'll try to sweet talk someone who did and post them.

Here are the awards received:

PWA Wrestling Banquet

It's that time of year again folks. Time to wish the Seniors well and tell the underclassman that we're gonna kick their asses if they don't beat Jackson next season! Ya know, we don't ask for much. I think it's the least they can do. Anyway, here are the Banquet particulars:

When: Friday, May 4th - 6:30pm

Where: Masonic Temple (corner of Berkley and Cohawkin Roads - across from KFC)

Cost: $15.00 - Must be paid in advance!

Contact: Kathy Hunckler: 856-423-6407 (Tell her you want the stuffed flounder! It's a joke.)

If the planets align correctly, we will have the pleasure of watching Season Highlights that night. If so, a DVD will also be available for purchase at a cost of $20. Think positive and send positive energy to the DVD highlight guy! I'll keep you posted on our progress!

Ryan Hoehn

OK, forget everything I said in the previous post. I had the match-up wrong. It's B2 vs A3 at 140. Told you not to bet the mortgage.

Anyway, Ryan will be facing Chris Vicente of Triton. All I could really find out is that he's a senior and his record is 33-4. I checked the Triton website and he wasn't listed as a past District place winner or anywhere else. The site didn't really have much info on individuals.

Ryan can do this. If he wrestles like he did against Palese in the semi's, Ryan will be seeded for Friday night. I won't be making the trip to Gami tomorrow but I'm with you in spirit! Go get'em Ryan!
